Welcome to the Tees Valley Collection
I have produced this series of artworks collectively named 'Ore-inspired', initiated by the mothballing of the blast furnace in 2010
followed by the regeneration of this in 2012.
I have since continued to produce dramatic and powerful landscapes of the River Tees estuary, surrounding industries; the South Gare and shoreline, which complete the series.
Every picture describes a place I have been to and experienced for myself, often walking for miles to capture fully its sheer beauty and atmosphere.
South Gare is an area of reclaimed land and breakwater approximately one mile north of Redcar on the north east coast, in the Borough of Redcar and Cleveland.
The Gare was constructed between 1861 and 1884 using 5 million tons of blast furnace slag from blast furnaces, silt dredged from the river bed and huge blocks of concrete.
